In September, Tesla released the new Model 3, which has undergone major changes from the inside to the outside. It has now officially allowed consumers to order cars directly online in China, Hong Kong and other places, with orders placed as soon as 6 weeks away. The car can be delivered after that. As for us in Taiwan, we have to wait a little longer. When the new Model 3 goes on sale, the battery capacity information has also been disclosed, confirming that the LR, the long-range model, has reduced power compared to the old model, but its cruising range has actually increased.
In addition, there is recent information that the new Model 3's yet-to-be-launched Perfromance model will have further improved acceleration performance, and may also add an exclusive acceleration mode that is unique to Model S and Model X.
The latest public certification information from China shows that the new Model 3 rear-wheel drive and Model 3 LR models are equipped with battery capacities of 60 kWh and 78.4kWh respectively. As for the battery capacities of the old Model 3 models, they are 60 kWh and 82 kWh respectively. kWh, that is to say, the power of the new Model 3 rear-wheel drive model has not changed, but the LR long-range model has lost 3.6 kWh.
However, whether it is a rear-wheel drive or LR model, the new Model 3 has better battery life than the old model. According to official public data, the maximum WLTP endurance of the new Model 3 rear-wheel drive and Model 3 LR is 554 kilometers and 678 kilometers respectively, while the old model has a maximum WLTP endurance of 491 kilometers and 602 kilometers.
In comparison, the battery life of both models of the new Model 3 has been significantly improved. One of the key factors is believed to be the optimization of aerodynamics. The original drag coefficient of Model 3 is very low, only 0.225 Cd, but the drag coefficient of the modified model has been further reduced to 0.219 Cd.
In all areas where the new Model 3 is currently on sale, the top-performance Model 3 Performance model has not yet been put on the shelves. According to previously obtained relevant information, the Performance model of the new Model 3 may be equipped with a rear axle motor of the same level as the Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid, which will improve acceleration and top speed performance.
Recently, new information pointed out that because the new Model 3 Performance model still uses a dual-motor configuration, it cannot hang the Plaid badge on the rear of the car like the Model S Plaid, Model X Plaid and other three-motor models, but Tesla may In addition to the two acceleration modes of "Comfort" and "Sports", the new Model 3 Performance has an additional Ludicrous, which is also the "Crazy Speed Mode".
This acceleration mode was previously limited to Model S and Model X. If Model 3 Performance indeed adds a crazy speed mode, it means that the acceleration performance is indeed better than the old model. However, the Performance model of the new Model 3 may not be launched until February 2024, and whether the performance will be more powerful will not be further confirmed until then.
